happened to me last year. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL! Get a replacement rope at your hardware store, length won't matter too much. If it's too long then trim it down, but too short...happened to me, just won't be able to crank too hard on it. But when you're getting the new rope on, don't mess with the recoil wheel any more than you need to. I ended up screwing up the whole recoil, and if you've never worked with the recoil good for you. good luck

I just replace one on my LM and it was easy. A couple of screws hold on the cover where the rope and spring are located, remove then. Then measure the old one and cut a new one to the same length. I used the new rope lenght to figure out how many time it would spin the spring housing. Then rotate the housing the correct number of times, line up the holes and put the new rope though. Knot the rope and release the tension and you are done. Hope this helps.

Having tried it before my guess is you have less than a 10% chance of being successful. I ended up taking mine to a small engine shop who charged me $15 to rewind it. It took him about 5 minutes. He told me next time don't mess with it. Fortunately, I didn't break the spring.
