laptop restarting

Recommended Posts

I've been having an issue for awhile with my laptop retarting for no reason. My screen goes blank and the screen with the selections start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode w/networking, and so on appears. I thought I wasn't running cc cleaner, advance system care enough, but that wasn't the answer. I also have the advance system malware and MS security essentials. There is no pattern when this happens. As a matter of fact, it happened while I was writing this to post. I am now in safe mode with networking. Do you think I have a nasty virus that hasn't been removed? Or I thought maybe I don't have enough RAM. This is really frustrating because it happens at the most inopportune times. Any advice would be helpful. My computer is an HP G60 running W7.

Does it seem to be getting hot? If they run hot they will do that. Also some Viruses run so intense they cause a heating problem. I would make sure the fan is working, if so try running malwarebytes, then combofix.

Thanks guys. Didn't think of a heating issue. I'll have to watch that. Can't disassemble the back to check out the fan because all my tools are packed in storage right now. Are my antivirus' sufficicient? Or should I change them up once in a while. The only one I bought a subscription to is ASC.

It sounds like an overheating issue to me also. I've disassembled a couple laptops and the cooling fins around the fan were jammed solid with hair, lint, etc. I would check that first.

Found a paper clip in the fan area once crazy no idea how it got there, made for a easy fix though grin

I would think a person could take some canned air and blow thru the ducts, most laptops pull air from the bottom side, people end up cutting off the air flow by accident and don't even realize they are overheating their laptop.
