GPS Question

I can't believe it but I think I lost my H2Oc. Had a lot of good spots marked on that thing. Since this GPS isn't sold new anymore. Just wondering if anyone hase used the Lowrance Endura™ Sierra. I'm thinking about getting one and just want to know if I would be better of trying to find a used H2Oc. Thanks.

I picked up a sierra and so far like it. It locks faster than my HDS-5, which has been my go-to gps for ice season the past two winters.

The big issue is you need to use the newest Lakemaster mapchips, older ones won't work at all. Navionics chips don't work for tracking under the normal gps mode either. The controls are a bit clunky and awkwardly responsive, but the menu system allows some tailoring so if you only use it for contour maps, waypoints and trails you can make it fairly streamlined and hide most the other views and screens.

I got mine from cabelas for $250 and used points, so I'm not heavily vested in it. I already got the newest chips to make sure I have HDS capable Lakemaster backups so it was a good solution for my needs.

I dropped my H20C in the water last summer so I'm in the same boat as you. Apparently 15 seconds under water was too much for the seals. The unit still works but the light doesn't come on anymore.

Are there any new GPS units that take the old lakemaster chip? I don't want to buy another chip (just purchased one in 2010).

Kind of ironic, that your "GPS" is "lost". whistle

I saw mention on this site of a new Lowrance handheld, but nobody has yet come up with a name. I had heard a lot of negative comments about the whole Endura line a while back, but they may have improved it since. After my Lowrance ExpeditionC (an H2O cousin) lost the ability to locate its position (something that seems rather critical for a gps, no?), I replaced it with a Garmin 62st and LakeMaster chip. Very nice upgrade.

That's funny. grin

I was debating this and decided to wait for a new phone then download the Navionics app. I need a phone anyway, +$15 for the North America app.

See the Navionics thread. Honestly, I'm surprised that the handheld market still exists.

Note, I haven't purchased it yet but should have it by the end of the year.

Thanks for the input. I was looking on Cabelas and there were 4 comments and they all gave this GPS 1 star. I guess I'll have to do a little more research and maybe check into some of the Garmins. The phone app won't do me any good when I'm in Canada or lakes with very little cell phone coverage. If anyone has an old H2Oc I would be interested in buying it if you wanted to upgrade.

I had the iFinder Expedition C. basically the same as the h2o. I just gave it away Wednesday. My unit didn't lock in in the cold and wouldn't even lock in when I tried to use it last week. I tried the master reset and it still wont lock in.

Anyway I bought a Garmin oregon 450 and bought the inland lakes Northeast chip. Is it me or do these maps pale in comparison to the Navionics HD maps. I mean not even in the same league. I do have Navionics on the phone but I don't know that will work everywhere and the maps seem less detailed as my chip as well.

Are lake master chips you refer to any better than the chips Garmin sells? Or maybe there the same chips?? just looking to improve on the Garmin chip I bought.

thanks,

Spike

Never mind I just searched the lake master maps and see they are just for the mid-west.

Guess I'm stuck with crappy maps.

Spike,

Did you get the plain Inland Lakes or the Inland Lakes Vision?

With the device you have, you can get some pretty neat options with the Vision data rather than the regular data.

Some states are compiling their own data of their lakes now for free download, you might want to check your state and see if they offer it.

I just have the plain not visions. I was told the vision wasn't compatable with the Oregon450? Could have been some bad advise? All I know is it cost me $100 and it isn't even close to the same quality of the Navionics. Guess I can't complain too much, at least the unit locks in to its position. Or maybe I should have looked for a better gps that uses Navionics chips.....No biggie. I tend to fish the same spots now anyway and I have all the coordinates for them.

My Garmin LM MN chip seems even more useful than the old Lowrance LM MN chip I had. It has far more lakes mapped, including BWCA lakes; most are simple DNR map overlays, but they're still good to have.

I was thinking of getting the Garmin LOW/Rainy chip, too (rumor has it they'll soon be impossible to find), but not sure I really need it. As I recall, I had a LOW+2K chip for Lowrance mostly because I wanted Lac Seul. I don't see anything with Lac Seul for Garmin... frown

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
