Hookmaster
The current one is the old style wood or compressed wood. The garage isn't insulated so would an insulated door be overkill? I want to keep it as inexpensive as possible but get a quality door. Let's hear your thoughts on what kind with pros and cons.
Macgyver55
The garage isn't insulated so would an insulated door be overkill? Its probably unnecessary but I'd get one with at least some insulation simply because they are quieter when going up and down. The uninsulated are kind of "tinny" sounding. echotrail
About 5 or 6 years ago I had my 8x16 garage door replaced with a insulated Clopay door. Installed the cost was close to $1,200.
JohnMickish
Just a couple of months ago I replaced my 16X7 with an insulated one from Menards. They where on sale and I think I got out of there for around $500 with the door being delivered the next day.My wife and I took the old one down and put the new one up in about 6 hours. That included a trip to Home Depot to get the door trim as we discovered that the wood that was there was all rotted. This is deffinitly a DIY project, but not in the winter in a unheated garage. BoxMN
I too would do insulated. Becuase they are stronger and quieter, and are you sure the garage will forever be uninsulated?
