The Meatsticks tips are very thin so you have a very sensitive tip.

I keep my Meatsticks in a Stone Legacy bag and have no issues with broken tips.

Far from junk, they just have to be taken care of as any other rod would have to be.

I have a Thorne bros deadstick which also has a very sensitive tip and if one does not watch how it is handled, you will have a broken tip. beeen there and done that once and learned better rod case.

I would try the swivel to reduce line twists. It would not suprise me if the reel was poorly made. I purchased two JM meatsticks last year. Both broke within a few weeks of use. One broke on a 14 inch walleye.

I would say if one broke on a walleye, I would call and get it warrantied.

As I stated earlier in another post, if one is looking for a rod with a very sensitive tip, if they are not taken care of very carefully, the tips can break. That's the price one pays for getting a rod that can detect a minnow swimming. They are all very fragile.

Now if one wants a rod that one can bounce around anywhere, I would look at getting a very stiff rod with no sensitivity. Pool cue type rod as they will last a long time without doing damage to the tip or the blank itself. The higher the modulus or the more sensitive the rod blank is, the better the chance one can break it.

Many people have been using them for years with no issues.

In regards to the reel being poorly made, no it's not a $150 reel but they do work and I have had these reels for years and they all still work well today.

One cannot expect a less expensive reel to work like one of the best on the market. Quite a difference in price also.

In regards to the line getting looped around the knob, I would try and use a swivel and a ice line that does not have alot of memory. That alone should help one out quite a bit. I have had some lines or old line with alot of memory and no matter what reel I used, it would and could become a issue.

I am glad your TB ros has not broken on you. I believe the Thorne rods and yes they are a great rod is about 2-3 times higher in price than a JM rod.

The reel issue with the spoon problem cannot be fix with lines or swivels, it is a poor design and the stroke is very short , the line keeping section is not wide enough and the problem is happening to too many owners. I have owned a lot of reels over the years and never had this problem, I will move on from the JM products and spent my money and time on better equipment..

Must be tough on them Ed. By chance did the drag washer get wet? If not, I would call them and see if you could get them replaced.

I have 5 of the JM reels and have never broken a single one but I keep them in good rod bags for protection.

I just went hrough all my rods and reels today and respooled new line. I will be using them on Upper zred next week and I am sure they will preform well, if I thought they would not, I would take a few Tica's along.

I have been fishing with Jason and he has a bunch of the reels on rods in his truck in rod holders. I have never seen Jason have an issue with the reels nor have I.

maybe we are lucky or something.

I have a variety of Jason Mitchell Rods and reels. I have not had any of the problems listed above. But again like others has said I depend on my gear so I take excellent care of it. Rod and reels are stored in a Marcum rod bag. I treat them the same as I do my Thorne Bros rods. I also just put a new JM reel on a panfish sweetheart last night. One of the features I like is the larger diameter spool. I think it reduces the line coiling greatly when fishing in very cold temps.

I really like the JM rods for a mid price range rod. The key is finding one that suits your needs. There are plenty of models to do that.

I have a number of Jason Mitchell rods and reels, just picked up another meatstick at the show last weekend and put a Jason Mitchell reel on there. I'm hard on my equipment and have never had a problem with the Jason Mitchell reels, I'm a little surprised to hear that others have had issues. Have you guys tried calling and letting him know? In my experience, he has top notch customer service and will make it right if there is a problem. I broke a rod a couple years back and called and he sent out a new one, even though it was my own fault it broke and it was past warranty. If you haven't contacted him, you should...you'll get much better results than posting negative comments here.

PS. I have never fished with Jason Mitchell and don't really know anything about him except that he makes the nice equipment at a reasonable price.

Now I understand why you are so pro Jason Mitchell, I wish he would come on this site an address all these problems that everybody else is having except you...

Quite the assumption on your part.

I like the gear as I have had very good luck with it. Just because one fishes with another has nothing to do with the quality of said gear.

If you have a question about the Mitchell line, maybe you should call or e-mail Jason and ask questions in regards to your concerns.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
