Navionics MARINE AND LAKES for Android

Recommended Posts

Good luck getting anywhere with them on the issue. I've yet to have them give me an answer, or admit that there is a problem. Here is their latest response:

Please be aware that you will have to download the map area in order to view chart information with the Marine & Lakes: USA App. To do this, enter “Settings” and select the “Download Map” feature. This will allow you to select an area to download maps. The Lakes: US North app had all of the chart information for that particular area preloaded, so you did not have to select a specific area. If you have attempted to download the map area, and you are still not seeing chart details, please do not hesitate to contact us back for additional support.

Most initial response is scripted. Not sure where you are with support, but if you contact them again, be sure to explain in detail the steps you have already done to attempt to fix the problem. If you don't they will have no idea where you are at in attempting to solve the problem on your own and may just have you repeating steps you have already taken or they may even see where you went wrong(does happen on rare occasions).

I don't think Mille Lacs is as good now. I know Lake of the Ozarks isn't as good, Burntside sux...

I ran the old program on android 2.2 froyo. I jumped up to 2.37 gingerbread for the new program (hoping to save battery.) I went back to the same 2.2 froyo to go back to the old program. I then re-installed the new program on 2.2 and the problem persists.

It looks like I'll have the option of running android Ice Cream Sandwich pretty soon. Maybe that will help the problem? Somehow I doubt it.

Caman, what OS is on your new phone?

Ice Cream Sammich! grin

It runs great except the font on the labels (like depth and structure spots) don't scale right and are really small .

I checked out Mille Lacs before and I thought it was the same map. I'll check it again when I get a chance.

Alright I just checked out Mille Lacs, and comparing them side by side, New app on my new phone, old app on my old phone. They are the exact same maps, the contour lines have the exact same everything, only thing different is the new app is about 100x easier to read because they made the depth colors different. Not all the same color dark blue down to your "safety depth".

Burntside looks to be exactly the same as well, both have 20' contours and nothing is different. So yes, they both suk!

I have nothing to compare it to but looking at Lake of the Ozarks, a lot of it is in 1' contours and the rest looks to be in 3' contours. That's top of the line mapping to me.

So I have no idea what you're seeing but on my end nothing has gotten worse except for the VNP lakes, and I will try and pry more out of Navionics on that this week.

And also comparing between new and old app on my new phone, it seems even though the closest you can zoom is .05 miles on both apps, the new app actually zooms in quite a bit closer somehow. Wish I could take screenshots to show the dramatic differences it is between the two.

So far I am happy and have no reason to go back to the old app except for the one time a year I go up to Namakan, but we have a 10inch chartplotter with both Lakemaster and Navionics chips in that boat! smile

Lake of the Ozarks lost detail deep into the arms (where most of the crappie fishing goes on...). I just downloaded the new version and it looks like the definition has come back. Maybe those southern boys have more pull than we have at Navionics?

Naw, I'm guessing it's the same bug I found with Prior Lake, and redownloading solves it.

But on a plus side I figured out how to take screenshots with my phone! grin

Here is the comparison between the two apps.

Mille Lacs centered over Hennepin Island, both apps have safety depth set to 18ft..

Old App---

New App---

There is clearly a night and day difference between the two, but both maps are the same, the new one is just easier to read. Don't know why Hennepin Island isn't showing up as land on the new app though, that is kinda strange.

Maybe if you download it a few more times that island might come back... wink

Yeah, maybe I was looking at Mille Lacs without re-downloading it. LOOA got better but I didn't re-download the map, the program started giving me an android error and to fix it I had to delete my android OS, re-load that, and re-download Marine and Lakes. Now the spring crappie spots look like in the old version.

Maybe the program got a little update? Still nothing useable for cabin-toga-mama.

Are there no problems with the iPhone, or does everyone on this forum have android phones?

The new Android App just came out a month or so ago, the new iPhone App came out over a year ago, so if there were any bugs they've been worked out by now.

After a google search Darren, there appears to be some apps that work on the droid x that can screen shot with no root and no computer. They didn't work on mine however. But I am on a droid 2.

I have one that is an APK file. I can send it to you and you can try it if you want.

otherwise the only way with out a computer is to root your phone or wait until a new feature on the Android OS opens up. You can bet it will happen in an update, just a matter of when.

Let me know

I apologize if this has been answered already but I did try to search the forums for an answer first. Is there a place to go and search as a type of "manual" for the Droid Navionics app? Just got the app and I want to make sure I can do what I want to when I get out on the ice. So far with just goofing around with it I think the value is absolutely fantastic.
