Any decent grouse reports from Duluth or Iron Range?

Is anyone seeing any grouse out there? I've been out twice in the last week with little success. Small pines, alder lowlands, blowdowns; none held any numbers. It was cloudy both times I was out. Sunshine would have been helpful. While I was on the trail, I found several areas where grouse had scratched thru the snow looking for food. Probably looking for clover.

I got back from the Isabella area on Sat night. Only saw 3 birds in 2 days. Lots of sign, but the birds were nowhere to be found. I'm guessing the weather had something to do with it. It was raining/sleeting/snowing the whole time.

I was up in the Iron Range for Thanksgiving and was able to make it out a few times. Pretty much the same report here. I was able to find tracks but not able to locate birds. In two days of hunting I was able to get two and flush a few others but really slow for what had been a great year. I seem to have problems locating birds once the snow comes so I have to figure out where they go. It was snowing both days so they could have been in the trees where my dog could not scent them.

Went north of Duluth for a few hours yesterday and didn't see a thing.

Went out near Isabella and Finland on Saturday and didn't see a single bird.

Heard from a few friends up on the Iron Range that they're starting to covey up. Hope you've got a good dog - it'll be harder to find `em the rest of the season.

All in all an ok season.

I've been out a few times recently. Most days you don't see a bird, some days you see 10. Much slower than before deer season. Not sure where the birds go.
