Wow, $3 a piece. I buy packs of a hundred W Beads for ~$13 on the bay. I bet if a few more companies made these, the prices would drop significantly.

Or if it didn't melt at 5000+ degrees. I think the major inhibitor to mass producing these things is the ability to mold the metal.

You need some pretty fancy equipment (probably stuff you picked up cheap when the USSR fell)...

My guess is that they don't actually melt the W. They probably mix W powder with another, lower melting temp metal then sinter the whole jig assembly together.

Another thing, which I believe someone else brought up, is that to melt the W into a mold, you would have to pour it onto a hook wire. This would melt the hook wire. So, again, melting the W is not likely to be the method of manufacture.

All I use are fiskas. The tungsten is fine but I dont really care about the weight so much. The kamasan hooks are why I use them. I bought some kamasan hooks and had a guy make sme jigs for me. They worked just as well. I mostly use gold and fish cant resist Fiska gold. If I could get more Kamasans I would have him make more.

Custom jigs and spoons use poor hooks. I tried them. Wasnt impressed. If they would upgrade hooks I would use them.

I tried tungsten for the first time last year and really liked it. At $2.29 each I only purchased one to try it out. Today, I just loaded up on the Scandias since they are on sale at FF for $1.49, not much more than a standard lead jig. I know there have been reports of the paint not being as good but I didn't have a problem with the one last season. I think I will give some of them a coat of my wifes clear nail polish to better protect the finish. At this price you better get them before they are gone.

I've also heard the the clear nail polish with glitter is an added bonus to coating any jigs.
