Which bait to chose from so many?

Thought i would throw a topic out there for people to mill around in.
With the many baits available to panfisherman nowadays, i like to equip my tackle box with an assortment of everything.Tube jigs, maribou jigs, quiver jigs,fuzz-e-grubs,crappie killers, beetle spins, kastmasters, finesse plastics, poppers, just so many to chose from....

Then there's all the color choices.I buy bright colors, chartreus, pinks and whites, and flashy lures for dark or stained water and for clear water i look for the blues, blacks, yellows, greens and orange colors.

Then there's all the live bait to chose from..There's minnows,crickets,eurolarvae,wax worms,grasshoppers,mayfly nymps,catalpa worms,cockroaches,pieces of nightcrawlers,garden worm,leeches,grass shrimps,and mealworms.

It's kinda funny when i think about all the choices i have when choosing the baits. Now i have to decide if i want to chose a single tail grub,or a double tailed beetle spin,or a tube jig that quivers with the many tentacles jutting from it's body.

I guess my wife is correct when she says i go way overboard with my spending. If i had my way i'd buy the whole tackle shop.I guess that's a little extreme?....

All in all...i have too say..Dang...I LOVE FISHING!!!!!

yep !!! my panfish box ( a plano 3700) is way more valuable than my crank bait , or even my muskie box. i took everything out last year so i could take a picture (for insurance ) man all of the different flu - flus, tubes, twister tails, split tails, mini mites, and other plastics, plus many different sizes of jigs and all of the extras ! i placed the value of that box at $400. hmmmm ! wonder how many more i can get in there!! del

I hear ya, so much panfish tackle to choose from and not enough time to buy it all wink.gif ... I'm sure trying though. My tackle box is crammed full of plastics, spinners, jigs, etc for panfish. BDR has seen it, its like a big paint by numbers grin.gif

I would also like to throw Bio-Bait into the mix for your choices of bait. I've had great success with Bio-Bait and its an extremely versatile tool to have.

Good Fishin,

Anybody ever use the ultrasmall plugs? There are some that are under an inch, smaller than some of the plastic I throw. Are they any good for crappies? Otherwise it's been a minnow under a bobber - just getting into plastics.

yes i use the ultra lite crank baits. around here i catch more bass on them than crappies. on the good water( around the faribault area ) i have better luck trolling with them than casting. i may have to place a sinker of some sort to get the depth i want, but it does work. and yes i always have a plastic handy. del

Sure, i have many ultra plugs.I use them when trolling deeper water(10-20 ft.) and when i'm fan casting the shorelines in search of crappie.Beetle spins also work great when searching.Blade baits work well too.Once i find the crops,i go back and throw tubes at em'.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
