Bear baiting

Little early to think about bear baiting but had a buddy tell me a guy he know only baits about 3 days before opener, puts bait out if it gets hit he rebaits the day before opener and has had awesome luck with it, anyone else try this or heard about this.

His bait is on a hot travel route. This hot spot can go cold very quickly. Anything that changes this route like logging, building, over hunting in the area etc. will end this hot spot. They are great while they last. Like they say "don't put all your eggs in one bucket".

never to early for bear baiting. But i think that soon before opener is a big gamble. but it seems to work for him, like bog said hes probabley on a travel route which is what we all want, but also if he is baiting that late, the gamble would be he could be attracting bear from neighboring hunters even up to two miles away or more with wat would be a new food source.

the big trick in baiting is to keep them interested for up to almost 3 weeks pror to shooting an burn out can an dose happen, so throw in something new an smelly an just priorto hunting an you could be golden.

Hate to bait 3 days prior and on an average it takes a bear 1 to 10 days to find a bait UNLESS your on a travel route or a bait that has been good for years. You would be SOL if starting a new bait and thinking 3 days!! Thats my opinion though.. Boar, how's fishing??? 57
