air hammer

I have a cheap air hammer that won't hammer. I tried to clean it out according to the directions but it will only go 3-4 times and then air just comes ou. I figure it is some sort of shot O ring but I can't figure out how to get it apart. It's only worth $20 or so and so its no big deal. Any ideas other than toss it?

HI Tom, 2nd reply here. Idont know where the first went. Try putting a few drops of light oil in the air inlet, try again. If it dont work try it again. Try that a few times. Good Luck.

Are you running high enough PSI or using a compressor with high enough CFM output? The pressure regulator on the compressor may not be big enough either.

Make sure that the "barrel" is tightly screwed into the handle.

It has worked in the past, plenty of air at a high enough PSI and the only way I get to to work at all is to pour oil into it as the manual says. I think it's probably kaput and also that it's made to be a throw away.
