First Triple!

Recommended Posts

What a way to start this full moon. I got up around midnight and headed out. Wind was from the NW and there was a dusting of snow on the ground. The light flurries continued as I drove around a few of my spots to see which ones were going to work. The best looking ones being the freshly plowed ones.

I didn't have my little buddy with as he's had his sophomore testing every day this week and he's been bowhunting every morning before school, trying for a good buck we've got pictures of behind the house. Hopefully we'll get him out this weekend yet.

I drove to one of the new properties I picked up this summer and set out. It's a 80 acre plowed bean field with woods to the West and North and a tree line and another bean field to the East with a swamp beyond that. Road is on the South. I set up tight agianst the woods on the West about 60 yards from the road and put the caller 40 yards NE of me. I started with bluejay distress on low volume and immediately saw one coming in hard from the NE. It never seemed to try and get down wind. It stopped at 80 yards and the 17 REM dropped it in it's tracks. I immediately switched to the pup distress and within a minute or two had the second one coming in on the tracks of the first. It ran up to the downed one and appeared to lay down for a second then got up and circled it. When it stopped to look back I squeezed another round off and after a few spins that one lay still. I kept the caller going and began scanning with my binoculars. I soon saw one coming in from the East through the treeline. It came in slow and stopped several times. I waited until it turned NW and gave me a good shot and put that one down as well. I let the caller play for a bit but nothing else showed. Ended up with a male and two females and the fur looks real good on all of them. A couple cockle burrs is about it.

I hit two other spots after this set but the wind and snow picked up and the moon all but disappeared and I didn't want to risk burning any spots so I called it and headed home.

I'm heading out to fire up the heater in the garage and start skinning so good luck to anyone getting after them this full moon.

Rob

Grayfox,

Not that you aren't doing great around here but I just took a trip to Sask. and we saw all kinds of yotes. You would have a hay day up there. We would see them in the middle of the day. We must of seen 10-12 during the week and we weren't even looking for them. Well done on the triple.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
