Hello everyone! I just wondered if anyone has bought a portable from this show in the past. The reason I ask is that I'm looking to buy the new Nanook Thermal from Clam this year and was wondering if the show would be a good place to buy it or should I just buy from a retailer? Thanks for your time!

This would a great place to get your portable. And you will get a great deal on them as well. Good luck!

I bought an Otter Lodge at the show several years ago and it was cheaper at the show than anywhere else I could buy it except when you figure in the 2 hour drive, parking expense and the 2 hour drive home. I went specifically to buy this flip over and I had a chance to really check it out from the display models on the floor. I will say that I was a little disappointed in most of the other vendors as I was expecting much more from all of the hype.

I will say that you have to go at least once just to see what it is all about.

Capt H has a good point as all the brands will models will be set up. You can check out Clam, Eskimo and even take a good look at the New X900 Otter Thermal line up. I like the show as you can crawl in every model made and get a feel for them before buying.

That's what I did the year I bought. I didn't end up buying at the show, but was able to figure out which model I wanted after being able to sit in all of them and look at all of the features of each.

I'm sure if you called thorne bros or any of the other retailers that are usually there it may save you a trip. But it is always good to see new stuff and friends that I don't get to see any other time of the year. Ever look at Frabill shelters?

For anybody in the market to buy a new shelter the ice fishing show is the best place to be. Not only is practically every shelter represented but you also have experts on hand to answer questions and offer recommendations based on your need. If you feel like pulling the trigger that day you can save some money too.

Northlander Im looking pretty hard into a new otter flip over. I havent decided between the otter and frabill yet. The names and numbers of the otter flip overs confuse me but I think I have the pro lodge thermal XT900 picked out. Im debating on coming to the show but havent decided yet because its a long drive. Since you will be there do you know if that model will be on display at the show and would it be discounted at the show?

Thanks

I'll be headed to the Ice Show for the first time this year looking for my first Flasher (pretty sure is going to be the Marcum LX5)...I'll be comming with cash, can I expect the same good deals on Flashers?

I would think yes, but just wanted to confirm...maybe go out on the dreaded black friday if there is anything good. But would much rather go to the show for some back and forth bardering.

I'll be headed to the Ice Show for the first time this year looking for my first Flasher (pretty sure is going to be the Marcum LX5)...I'll be comming with cash, can I expect the same good deals on Flashers?

you might want to check out the showdown troller made by marcum if you are a hole jumper(move to hole to hole). the three questions that you should ask yourslef are:

1. do you move from hole to hole

2 perm or hub/flip

3.storage

i have a hand augur, but i want to get a power auger. what would the price range be at the expo? gas, electric, and propane?

For all you guys looking for deals, there are some decent ones there--- but you're only talking 5-10% off.

Remember, its the beginning of the season and youre lucky to get anything off. The only thing you have working in your favor is that a lot of guys want to sell it rather than load it back up.

So fishing math tells me that 10% off $500 = $50 off. That would be worth the drive and price of admission I would think!

Especially when you factor in how fun the event is. I love walking around looking at all the things I "need" for "next year".

Some of the smaller ticket items you can save well over 10% on, but the major items (portables, flashers, etc) you're probably looking at 5%-10%.

As an example that Strikemaster suit was closer to 50% off. I bought the large Clam fan/light combo for 50% off as well last year. The expo is a great event for any avid ice fisherman even if you don't plan on buying anything.

I bought a Marcum LX-5 from Marine General at the show last year. With the $50 rebate Marcum had, I purchased the flasher for $375! It was a great deal!!!

I'm planning on buying an Eskimo Fatfish popup at the show this year. Those things look sweet! I should be able to score a good deal on one! Can't wait for the show and I really can't wait for some ice!!!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
