Mitch is off to a good start

Took out Mitch this morning and ended up with two.

First spot was a dud but had a pack of wolves light up. Pretty close too. I'd say within 1/4 mile.

Went a good mile away and tried agian with Mitch watching the North and me the South. Caller was going for 15 minutes when I hear him shoot. He hit it and it made it maybe 20 feet. It's pretty tough with no snow on the ground. He could hear it coming through the brush before he even saw it. Not much wind tonight.

Tried a spot after that but it was so tight and the wind was swirling around there a bit. I heard one run up,hit my light and took the shot but somehow missed it. Never heard a sound from it so hopefully a clean miss.

On the way to the third set we see eyes on the road and as we get a little closer we can see it's a Gray. It finally runs off the road to the West so we turn around and head West of it,set up and start calling. I run the call for about 15 minutes off and on but nothing. I switch to pup distress and 10 minutes later Mitch rolls a nice male. Heard that one charging through the brush too and just about ran him over. That one took a pretty good load of #5's. After the pictures it started to drizzle off and on and then came down at a pretty good clip so we called it a night.

Yeah, I noticed that too after I posted the pics. The chest freezer is starting to fill up already. I might have to make a fur run to the buyer a little early this year. We picked up a big boar coon this morning as well when we checked the traps this morning. Also saw three more coon in the back and another Fisher too when we pulled the camera. Seed for next year.

Congrats on the great start!!

Made a few sets tonight and got blanked. Got home and while unloading the truck, heard a few yodel dogs yacking a ways out behind the house. Figures, don't it? LOL!! Beautiful night to be out though!
