Any duck hunting vigilantes out there?

Recommended Posts

So I was out on a metro lake this AM and around 9:30 after a VERY slow couple hours the lake wakes up and there were several flocks of divers working the lake. About the same time the only other group on the lake was heading in. Once the ducks were in the air they stopped in the middle of the lake put the sides of the boat blind up and a guy in the bow starts blasting at the birds in the air. They were definitely NOT chasing a cripple. I tried calling the CO right away and I also called TIP. I know there are worse injustices in the world but I really really wanted to meet them at the access to make sure they knew the law bur decided not much good would come of that. Also as they were bobbing around in the middle I had a nice flock come in and shot a redhead. As soon as they heard my shot they hauled a$$ to the access. I'm convinced they thought they were the only huntress on the lake so figured what the heck. I guess the irritating thing is that our metro options are limited and idiots like that make us all look bad. Pi$$ off the lakeshore owners and they can get lakes nuked. Just look at Bald Eagle. Sorry for the rant but i'm pretty straight and narrow when it comes to hunting laws.

Would you guys have done anymore than attempt to contact the CO? I almost was going to post the lake name with a description of the truck but decided not to go the vigilante route yet.

I looked thru the regulations and seen nothing on this, as long as the watercraft has stopped from the use of the motor, and is drifting. I dont know if thier is any lake regulations on this but in my view the hunters were more safe shooting in the middle of the lake than if they were by shore. If i am wrong on this please let us know, cause i still think he was legal.

Read a little farther, it"s in there about you having to be concealed in the vegetation and not in open water or a draft boat. The only time is for chasing a cripple.
