P_Norts
Anyone out there every made their own hot sauce? The hubby mentioned last night that he would like to know how to make his own hot sauce. Goodness knows we have enough hot peppers around here left. Any recipes appreciated.Mama Norts

Jim Uran
I love dabbling in the heat!! I make my own hot sauce and you can spice it up or down by replacing the peppers for milder ones or whatever!! a couple cloves of minced garlic 1 diced red onion 3 diced tomatoes 3 tablespoons of veggie oil *2 medium jalapeno peppers *2/3/4 habanero peppers, seeded or not 1 cup of white vinegar 2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons white sugar Directions: 1. Over medium heat in a large saucepan, heat oil and add the onion, jalapeno peppers, habanero peppers and garlic. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the onions begin to brown. Stir continuously. 2. Reduce heat. Add the vinegar, tomatoes, salt and sugar. Stir until the tomatoes break down. Roughly 6 minutes. 3. Place mixture in blender and blend until a puree is formed. 4. Pour mixture through some cheese cloth or something like that. It seems the longer you let it simmer the bigger the bite, so do what you please, either way it's got some good flavor. I got the recipe off of some HSOforum a while back and fell in love with it. * Jalapenos can be subbed out for some serranos or something similar, the # of habaneros depends on how hot you like it. And make sure to wash your darn hands LOL!!
