Barrier between soil and the house.

I've got a raised bed flower garden on a back corner of my house. Basically just a little ring of landscaping stones on the corner, maybe standing a foot and a half or so taller than the surrounding ground.

When the previous owner filled in this bed, he just dumped dirt in there so I have got dirt standing above the cinder block foundation and up against the vinyl siding.

When we bought the house, our inspector said that we need to put some sort of barrier between the dirt and the siding to meet code and something about eating up the siding.

Well, I'm trying to get that done, and I have no idea what kind of material to use. Any ideas? The house inspector indicated that there was some sort of material specifically for this purpose but I can't remember what he was talking about.

I agree with MNICE...Your home inspector was probably more concerned about the sheathing and rim areas besides the siding...our building code requires a six inch seperation beween finished grade and wood not resistant to decay....I would remove and maintain your six inch minimum

At least dig out a trench up against the house and put in some matching block if you can. I would leave at least a foot open space between the block and the house.

I agree with the idea that removing it would be best. Can you take it out and build it someplace else on your lot?
