6'6" Medium Heavy Fast Action - What's the best technique for this rod.

Hi Guys - with the rod/reel setups getting more and more specific for each technique I am following the trend and have upgraded many of my Bass fishing combos in the last couple of years to be very technique specific.

I have a 6'6" medium heavy, fast tip, rod with a standard cork handle that has fallen out of rotation and I am not quite sure what I should be using it for anymore. It seems that many of my rods have creeped up into the 7 foot range and I dont know what to do with this shorter rod.

I have a similar 6'6" rod that is medium (to medium light), fast tip, that I throw shallow diving crankbaits with and I love it for that purpose.

Not sure what is the best technique for this more stiff 6'6" Rod.

What would you guys use it for (if at all!).

-Andrew

I just bought a 6'6" MH for pitchin heavier jigs and creature baits into heavy cover. The shorter stick helps for accurate casts and rippin em out. It also balances a little better too. Paired with a 7:1 reel for super fast line pickup.

i'd also vote spinnerbait rod. Im like you and now i don't even own a baitcasting rod under 7ft. I use to use a 6'6" MH for jigs/creatures but once i tried a 7ft'er i loved it and now use a 7'3" and would never go back. But thats just personal preference.

I have the same rod and did not use it most of the summer, choosing instead 7 foot and longer for almost all techniques. Picked up the 6-6 again this fall and fished jigs with it. Shorter, lighter, very accurate, just a lot of fun to fish again. Will handle up to a half oz jig with no problem. Tie a jig on and go have some fun.

Thanks everyone for the input! I did actually use this rod in the past for Jigs and even before that I used it for spinnerbaits. It did work well for jigs but I went with a longer rod to help my hook-up percentage. I think I will give it a go as a spinnerbait rod again. I think I will pair it with a 6.2:1 reel.

I use a 6'6" mhf for a lighter cover texas rig rod and really like it. I really like it for pitching cabbage beds or sparser (if thats a word) coontail/hard bottom areas. I've got it paired with a curado and 15 lb flouro. I also like to use it for spinnerbaits especially target fishing with them. Works great for the roll cast with a spinnerbait or a pegged t-rig/jig.
