Newbie at Ripley this year and first morning had two bucks and one "double-wide" doe sniff my tree should have taken her but was waiting for Mr. Big. Later in the afternoon around 1:30 a big 8 about ran me over somebody must have pushed him and i could have touched him with an arrow he was that close...don't ask where my bow was!

This morning only saw one grouse and pulled the pin at noon to hit some other land close to home and just missed one of the biggest 10ptrs I've had the chance to shoot, 5 bucks total and the big guy was kicking some @ s s on the little guys they were every where.

The rut isn't far and the big boys are now coming out to play get in the stand. Oh every buck that I saw yesterday and today were grunting like crazy.

Good Luck,

mr

Well im finally back to a computer, it was our first time at Ripley and it was a good learning process, we saw deer so it was better then i thought. My buddy had a doe 30 yards broadside on Friday but didnt shoot, only bad thing was sleeping in a cold tent and having to to a half mile sprint to the truck on friday because my buddy said the gate didnt open till 6, so if any of you saw two idiots running to the front of the line while you were driving that was us laugh

It wasnt suppose to open till 6 but I wasnt complaining at all. Few more abandoned vehicles on the second day I noticed. Well run and a great experience. Saw 13 by 2pm on thursday. Only one was a buck and it was a spike. Friday people were all over our spot so we got out of there and did some exploring. Found an area ripped up and sat there for the rest of the day. Only had one doe cross about 50 yds from me. Def. learning experience.

where were more deer sightings at you guys think north or south? We stayed North both days but friday we started working our way south a bit. I gotta thank To Tall Tom for the help with the maps they were key to finding our way around

I'm a Ripley virgin. I'll be hunting the second weekend. I was wondering if any of the guys who have been up there and had some success could share some tips with a newbie? I've been doing a lot of "scouting" with google earth and found some funnels. Is this a good tactic or should I be looking for something else? Would it be better to hunt in some of the larger tracts of timber or some of the smaller tracts along the river? I don't mind a long hike if it means i'll see more deer by getting away from the roads. How wet are the swamps, could a guy walk through them with knee boots and have dry feet? My prliminary plan is to get in early and set up on a funnel and hope other guys walking in push deer by me, unless someone has a better idea. Any info is greatly appreciated. If you would prefer to email me, my address is [email protected]

Thanks,

Ed

Ed we thought that was going to be the way to go as well. Everyone else thought so too after looking at google earth and found the pinch points. Getting in early is easier said then done. We walked in on the second day to the same spot we hunted the first and there was 10 people set up on the ridge. Have many back up plans. If we were to do it again we would just pull off and find a place with less vehicles and find a place you think looks good. Good luck its def. a fun experience.

I agree with the previous post. Even if you think you are the only one there there could be a guy 50yds from you. Look for places far away from anywhere and if you can see a funnel 200 others can see it too and are going to be at that spot.

Like previous posters stated, if you find a good looking spot on google earth so has everyone else. With that being said try to find those spots then find secondary escape routes from those spots. You have a better chance and getting a buck that got kicked of a spot by another person than natural movement. Sit all day and be ready between 10-2 when other are going to and from cars for lunch. Good luck!!!

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
