My son was looking in the regs saying mojo's can't be used in wma's and can't be used until Oct. 8 (not sure of the date). I don't have regs on me as I'm writing this, so I was wondering if the interpretation(he wanted to make sure he was reading it right) of the regs means mojo's can't be used in wma's at all during season or not until after Oct. 8? We just bought some mojo's and mostly hunt wma's, but if we can't use them we'll bring them back. Is Sherburne National Wildlife also considered a wma? Thanks for the replies...

page 11 of the waterfowl regs.

if the body of water you hunt is completely surrounded by wma, then no, they are not legal durring any time of the duck season. BUT if there is private land that butts up to the water at any point, then yes you can use them but after oct. 8th. this is what the local CO told me over the phone.

Quoted from page 11 of the waterfowl regs.

"Motorized decoy restrictions

From the opening day of the duck season (and on Youth Waterfowl Day)

through Saturday October 8, a person may not use a motorized decoy or other

motorized device designed to attract migratory waterfowl. On water bodies

and lands fully contained within state wildlife management area boundaries, a

person may not use motorized decoys or motorized devices designed to attract

migratory waterfowl at any time during the waterfowl season. This restriction

applies whether the motor is running or not. Devices without motors, such as

wind-powered spinning-wing decoys, are not restricted under this law. Radio or

wirelessly controlled motorized decoys may not be used."

Hey Tony

I think if you're going to be hunting mostly on wma's I would probably bring them back. I think there is a lot of grey area in that rule, and I wouldn't risk it. If you get the wrong warden checking you, he could really let you have it. For example the rule states fully contained, well marsh lake is a giant wma, but it's not fully contained because it's a river, but I've been told that they will be ticketing for mojos on Marsh lake this year.

I would tell Darren to take some of that money and try and pick up more goose floaters. A large spread of honker floaters is tough for geese or ducks to ingnore and you don't see a ton of people doing it.

The vibrating duck buts are illegal or the battery powered vibrating pucks can not be used untill after the 8th as well

What a silly and confusing bunch of rules by the DNR. They wonder why duck hunter numbers continue to drop, well confusing rules do not help for those that only occassionally hunt ducks.

The delay is supposed to protect local ducks.

I would suggest that they simplifiy the rules by dropping the WMA componant or going with a complete ban.

There are too many weekend warriors (and even seasoned veterans) that have a tough time distingquishing MN game management areas from Federal refuges and waterfowl production areas. What about the new walk in access land where does that fall ? Then add in the comments above regaring if the MN GMA water is fully enclosed by the state area or if private land borders the land. More confusion.

Strange that such a liberal state would provide an advantage to those that access and hunt private land ?

That's what I was thinking of doing. Money's been spent so we can trade 'em in for some floating honkers.
