IDing bucks from last year

Hey guys, wondering if you can help with a question I have. A buck from last year had a torn ear and a split brow tine. I have a buck on camera this year that is similar but no torn ear, no split brow. Do torn ears heal fast or do they stay that way? Also will a split brow break up into 2 points? Here is the buck I am talking about from last yr.

I don't believe an ear will heal back up completely. They are more cartlidge then muscle. Do you have a picture of the buck from this year that you can show us?

I hope you are right, then hopefully he made it through the winter and there would be another nice buck in the area. It has a goofed up right brow tine similar to the one last year but the ear is not split and I think it has a different shape to its ear. Gotta have a lot of patience this year!

I'd say you have a completely different deer, that cut ear wouldn't look like any of the other bucks pictured. Looks like you have some nice deer around good luck this weekend.

I agree I don't think an ear would heal like that, new buck for sure and hopefully you have two monsters running around.

A lot more white around the nose in the snow pic...but i don't know much about deer, maybe they brown up during the warm months.

3 nice bucks there though!

Also very different browe tine genetics, the split browe is obvious but the first buck also has tall browe tines. The 2nd buck has much shorter browe's but still very worthy of an arrow.

Thanks guys, the winter buck is the only buck I have not accounted for this year so I was curious. I didn't see him last year until the rut so hopefully he shows up.

About the only similarity I see is that they are both big. I would imagine that your winter pictured deer is just one that showed up in the rut/late season when deer move out of their core areas to better accomodate their needs (breeding/eating).

Different fo sho! Brows are different and the G2s are the short points on the 2nd buck, the long points on the first. That usually doesnt change from year to year.

I think that first one would look considerably bigger than the second if you saw him this year in the velvet. Both tanks though, good luck!!!
