cell coverage in ely area

Hey all, long time no see on here! Glad to see the same guys are still on here! Just got plugged back in after a few months of time off of internet due to moving and other fun.

Long story short I am in the process of dumping Verizon. They fail at providing me with service at my house which is where I need it most and managed to pretty much make me feel like I don't matter.

I am thinking of switching to T-Mobile and was wondering if they get service up in the Ely area since that is my favorite place to go. I see maps and stuff on their site show it as not being covered but I wasn't sure if maybe they were on roaming up there.

If they don't get a signal there I was curious if Sprint had any decent coverage up there too.

I realize I can go on the site and see a map but as evident by my fiasco with Verizon (I live in Fridley now so yeah)that is not always true. So I wanted to hear from people who have been up there and see what they got to say. Don't really want a Ford vs. Chewy debate but just to see if it will work there or not.

Thanks a million!

It's been 2 years since I had T-mobile and back then there was terrible service around Ely. Most of the time it was on other company lines.

With Verizon, I get 3G coverage at least 15 miles any direction of Ely and regular service a little further.

Thanks guys, that's what I was hoping for. I figured they would probably be roaming off of someone but I didn't know who or how it would work. I don't get up there as much as I used to but its nice to know there is some service. Verizon was really good up there but I can't get anywhere with them for service at my house so its time to jump ship.

That's kind of where I'm at. As much as I am attached to my phone it is nice to get away from it too. As long as the phone works as a phone I am happy. I do however understand the frustration of not having proper service though after living in Ely. It gets old not having what the rest of the world has (sort of where I'm at with Verizon and not being able to make calls from my house in Fridley).

Glad I found this thread again. Got to say thanks to the guys that helped me out here..

I ended up getting a HTC Amaze 4g on T-Mobile and have been very happy with it. Its a pretty sweet phone and I am liking the customer service so far and having my bill go from 110$ a month down to $77 is kinda nice too. It's not quite as fast as the Thunderbolt was online but it is still pretty good (speedtest.net so far fastest speed has been around 15mbps on the hspa+42 with a average at 7-8 mbps, the thunderbolt was fastest at 25mbps with lte and averaged about 17mbps). There have been no bugs and problems that I had with the Thunderbolt (that thing was a freakin joke). I get service at my house now which was my main concern when I switched. Yay!

Anyways, I happened to be up in the Ely/Cook areas about a month ago on a duck/grouse excursion and had full service pretty much everywhere I went. I camped on the north end of Big rice lake and grouse hunted all over around there with no drop in service. Later that weekend I headed over to Ely and hunted up the Cloquet line and had service all the way to the end. So in all I am happy with it. I was on roaming off of AT&T but its still service and I could do anything I wanted with it.

Thanks again for answering my questions, made my life easier to know I wouldn't be in the dark up there!
