laportian
I have a '98 90 horse evinrude that is oil injected. It is new to me this year and have always had motors that I've had to mix gas. I've heard from some people that I should lose the direct inject set up, or disable it, and run 50:1 in it. With the cool weather setting in is this something I should do? I also have heard that in cold temps the oilers don't work so good as the oil will really thicken up. I boat alot right up to freeze up so I am kind of worried. And if I do decide to run mixed gas how do I disable the oiler?
BobT
I've never heard or experienced any of those problems with either my '98 Johnson 90hp or my 2011 Evinrude etec 90hp. Okay, the etec is probably too new for this. Bad example.
boatfixer
Very reliable system. Leave it. Run high quality oil and it will be just fine
Sonicrunch
That motor is still pretty new. I would leave it as is. In ten years I would change it.

delmuts
I'm going to hi jack this thread too! I also have a 1990 yam 90 hp. ( carb)It runs great, but have noticed i've been getting a little( just enough to be messy in the transom area) oil leakage. Pulled the cover, and doesn't seem to be leaking from either of the caps. There is a small amout of oil sitting in the bottom of the cowling. Question! How is the oil fead into the cylinders? What is on the bottom of the reservoir that could be leaking?
marine_man
I'd clean all the connections off on the oil tank - top and bottom to make sure the rubber hasn't degraded and is letting a little oil past.marine_man
delmuts
I talked to a guy at a repair shop yesturday trying to get a little more insight to my problem. He said the same thing as Marine man, about the hoses. ( caps and bottle part look good)Still need to finish draining it, but can see that i will have to take it to a shop to change the hoses.( the one going to the pump is back under some linkage and at the bottom of the housing. A place where my SHORT STUBBY FINGERS CAN'T REACH!!!!!! )
