MinnetonkaMan
For everyone that says the youth season kicks all the birds out, you're statements are false. Went out scouting last night after the ywd closed and ducks were bombing into public hunting areas in the west metro like crazy. If you don't believe me go out and scout right before dark you will see the show in the sky. It isn't the ywd that scares them out it is good old mother nature that sends a annual cold weather pattern the week before the opener that pushes a ton of birds out every year. But this year will be different and people will have to say ywd doesn't change the regular opener at all. The only thing that I can hope for is rain so birds spread out and can be hunted with less work than getting in a boat and rowing a mile to ones spot on big water. Good luck out there and I think bags will be full of mallards, woodies and teal this year from what I have been seeing the last few nights but If you don't believe me go out to a known waterfowl slough and watch the show at sunset. gurkster
Yes - I was happy with what I saw on YWD. The duck population seems to be pretty good this year from what I am seeing.
rbs
I went goose hunting Sunday morning and the teal and wood duck numbers were awesome. Doesn't look like the kids scared them off lol

Maxxed Out
The youth hunt doesn't scare off ducks nor does hunting on water during early goose. The 25 mph NW wind that is blowing right now will though.
Storm
Yeah this weather is going to send them south pretty quickly. Will be interesting what all stays around or comes down to our area from up north before opener.
kurtkwe
Sounds like West Metro is place to be as south metro and areas to the south of it were pretty much devoid of ducks during the scouting I have done and during the youth duck hunt. I was on several of the lakes and WMA's and saw very few birds. Saturday morning was not exactly a duck day but it was very quiet.
surewood
Did some goose hunting this morning on a lake I was on sunday. There was a good number of ducks to get excited about, but today after the cold and wind they seem to be gone. we'll see what happens. Hopefully it blows more in or they were hunkered down on smaller waters and rivers.
Finlander
I think mother nature threw Minnesota a curve! Just when we get to shoot earlier than Oct. 1st. a cold front as usual comes out of Canada to blow the ducks south! Go Figure!
Muthagoose
Just thought to share with you guys at 635 this morning the puddles were iced over in spots. about 1.30 this afternoon we had hail then frizzle then snow... Loks like the duck gods are making sure all those teal and skinny wooducks are moving hard.. Going to be in the low 20's to upper TEENS up here tonight.. Then is its going to warm up this weekend and possibly rain...Minnasnewta at it finest...
