Regrout or get a solid surface

CHMOM

Recommended Posts

I have not posted before because I do not know a lot about fishing so I just read the posts to learn more.

I saw this forum and thought I would ask this...............

...I'm remodeling my house a little at a time to possibly (probably) sell in a few years. The kitchen counters are tile. They need regrouting and a few pieces replaced. Would it be better to just take the tile up and get a solid surface or just regrout?

First of all welcome to the great HSO family CHMOM there are alot of great guys and gals in these forums hope you find what your looking for..

All depends what you really want I personally like tile counter tops.

A few years ago I re-did my moms Tile counter top. I did have to re-glue some of the tiles down and you just have to make sure that the surface below those tiles are solid. I used a good tile adhesive so it would sit any higher than the rest of them. then let is set according to the adhesive direction then used a grout removal tool to clean the rest of the grout out then re-grouted then let it dry and seal according to mfg directions.

I don't care for tile countertops personally. But regrouting and replacing a few tiles is cheap, if you can get matching replacement tiles. For solid surface, you maybe thinking of Corian? Also they make some really nice laminate these days.

So if you have a lot of time and not much money, just redo the tile. Otherwise I would do laminate

If you have a lot of money, go solid surface! I priced it and was really surprised at the cost! Yes, you get what you pay for, but...I went with laminate.

If you like the tile, it's probably the way to go, nothing too tough to fix it up...

There are some really cool alteritives for counter tops also..Like concrete colored and stained for one. With the things they have on the market you can get concrete to look like marble.

there are also discount place that you can get counter tops at a great price too like Building Materails outlet

Personally I hate tile counter tops. I think most buyers do too just because you never know who or what lived in that house or what went on in there. Where there pets? To me grout holds bacteria. I bought a house with a tile counter top kitchen, it all went out the door before i moved in.

I wouldn't let anything I own touch that tile or grout.
