Insuring a fish house

I was told by Progressive that they don't insure fish houses (wheelhouse). Any suggestions?

I have my wheelhouse insured through Farmers as a rider on my auto policy.

I got mine through State Farm around 9 bucks a month for 7k of coverage. If you have home oweners insurance you could check with them.

I use foremost insurance company. Its about 30 a month covers everything.

I have mine covered with State Farm. I think its also around $30. I had water damage last year and they covered it so its a good thing to have.

They should be insured as a camper cause essentially that is what it is. Call a local agent and they will take care of you. Proggressive sounds like they have no clue what a fishhouse is cause you probably talked to someone that has never seen or could imagine fishing on a frozen lake!! haha A $10,000 fishhouse should run about $20 a month. Just make sure you ask about contents coverage as this is a good thing to add for a small price.

From what I understand about fishhouses is this.

If it's got a license plate (most wheeled houses now have too) you get a seperate policy for it.

If it's a ski house it's covered under homeowners insurance.

I got a quote for my LOW fish house and after I told them it's rented out 90% of the time the policy went way way up.

I dumped Progressive and went with The Hartford through AARP, saved myself $240 a year and the new quote included the wheelhouse.

I have mine as a rider on my auto as well. Same goes for my 5th wheel camper so I think for the most part it is pretty much considered a camper. I acutally had to send my insurance company pictures of my fish house as they weren't sure how a fish house could be valued over 10 K one picture and they said OH.

I got a quote on my new house from my insurance guy. (American Family)

Based on a value of $11,000 it would cost me $183 per year.
