nate larson
Talk about bad luck...got my right hand crushed between my brother's boat trailer and his truck hitch last week (don't ever try to stop a rolling trailer, even if it is about to hit your bro's 40k truck) Looks like I am going to miss out on early goose season and maybe the first week or two of the regular season. Has anyone else had injuries that made them miss out? Perhaps I could paint my cast camo and make some cast modifications to allow me to shoot
Gordie
Nate that bites and yes I have broken my arm while deer hunting and asked if the doctor could form the cast around my rifle but he wouldnt do it. and last year I slipped and screwed up my back on opening weekend of duck hunting. and I'm down right now with the same only worse condition with my back waiting for results that are not coming fast enough. Heal quick buddy and we will have to get out on pwelican again this year.. You could always photo the hunts for someone or set decoys with your good hand JK I know whats its like being busted up and its even worse when the things you wait for all year are not going to be able to be done.. Again hope you heal quick
JBar
In 2007 I compound fractured both bones in my right leg on the 5th of August but still got out to do plenty of waterfowl and bow hunting a little ackward and hard at times but a guy will make it work. If your trigger finger isn't broke ask the Doc if its okay to have him make some mods to you're cast. Tough luck hope all heals up well. mainbutter
compression injuries are the worst and you have my sympathies. Worst that ever happened to me was a thumb injury, fractured the bone right under my fingernail.. nothing to be done except drain the excess blood to limit the swelling. Fingernail even fell off and there was plenty of soft tissue damage. It took months before my finger looked "normal" again. I quickly learned to fish without using my thumb, but it made playing the guitar impossible for a while, which was too bad cuz I was supposed to perform
RumRiverRat
Bummer Nate. More ducks for me!
nate larson
I will hopefully have my cast off by the 21st of Sept and if i don't need much hand therapy i could be good to go in time for opener. I might just have to shoot em on the water...hopefully they aren't swimming too fast!
Gordie
Practice left handed
Feathers Rainin
If you are right handed you should be able to figure out how to shoot. My old man broke his arm playing football in high school. Hunted Red Lake with a cast on back in the glory days and there were ducks everywhere. He said he went through two boxes of shells and didn't hit a one and had to sit there and watch his younger brother shoot his limit then make fun of my dad each time he missed. He said the frustration wasn't worth it. I feel real bad for ya man. I would probably cry if that happened to me and not from the physical pain. That is one circumstance where ground pounding or water swatting is acceptable. Hope you figure out how to make it work.
HNTNBUX
Yep, I cut my finger setting a tree stand about November 1st. I had surgery the next day to reattach the tendons and nerve endings. I still hunted MN firearms season and went to SD and shot a pile of deer. Best thing was Wanderer had to dress all of them and boned out my two bucks so we could pack them out. The crawling and stalking was a little tough, the shooting a little challenging especially when I shot a doe holding my rifle unsupported and the bipod recoiled into my finger. Don't give up. Quackaddict9
cousin of mine broke his wrist a couple weeks before early goose two years ago, his trigger hand. Missed out the first weekend and hunted the rest of the season, he had a cast on for part of the season though too.
fasternu
Last year I had a vasectomy the night before duck opener. It was supposed to be done in July, but the doctor's schedule said otherwise. Much to my hunting buddies' suprise, I was the first one there ready to go, but I wasn't moving very fast. It was the only thing that could help me forget about my "procedure", shooting a duck or two was therapy!
tracker x-2
I had rotator cuff surgery one week before early goose. I went goose hunting with my old 20ga. pump used one arm, luckily my right arm was my good arm I thought i could get one shot off. We were using lay downs and we left a nice hole in front of me. As luck was we had lots of geese come in and I did get one on the first group we brought in. I would have went just to watch if nothing else.
