What a beauty!! What does the other side look like?

I cut open a couple Agates I found this weekend. They were pretty blah so i wasn't expecting much. But they turned out kinda neat!

I also found my first Stagenite Agate! Its like 3/4 lb!

In laymen's terms, what is the difference between a moss agate and a stagenite agate?

I think the Stagenites are characterized by straight radial needle inclusions. While Moss agates have a random fuzzy inclusions that kinda look like moss, haha. This online book is really awesome source of info! "The Other Lake Superior Agates" John D Marshall

Found a few today. I also found a larger whole nodule I'm going to cut open.

Those sweet high contrast bands are awesome, some decent shadow effect too, but I love the little red drops inside too...almost reminds me a little of a moss agate in that part.

thanks guys! yeah its fun to cut them open and find a nice surprise. I'm going to try and face polish this one, but I dont have any equipment...

Sorry Connan... I have a big ego but it wasn't me that nailed your post. Looks like I haven't been here long enough to mod my own forum. Try selling some in the for sale area...its possible some agate hound might even look there.

Thats ok yup serious hunting seems to be over; but I wont turn off my agate eyes. I found one last winter on my walk home from school! A sunny patch had melted a bit of snow in some landscape rocks and there it was!

I found one while fishing the Mississippi during the winter a couple years ago. Plenty of rocks, that's for sure! Gotta have a good eye though cause they really blend in!

I've seen some beautiful agates that came out of the Mississippi River.

I'm still finding a few. Another nice eye today....
