I only spent about 45 min looking and I found these, might have to go back one of the next days to check out the other 90% of the pit.

Sorry about the poor quality pics, stupid cell phone camera doesn't work too well in low light.

Rick, I love the one with the amethyst center! I've been lucky enough to find only one of those in all the time I've spent searching for these silly rocks. I'll have to post a picture of mine sometime. It's not huge, but it's a pretty one.

Awesome pics Dmopz!

I must say, I think you got the better of me on that hunt laugh I can't complain though, I found some nice lines myself.

I'm particularly partial to that strange mossy looking agate you found. The one to the left of the quarter in the picture with 4 of them shown. It's just so unique! I can also personally verify that the last white agate is indeed extremely unique... it looked really odd in person and I liked it a lot.

I found this one last Sunday- probably one of my favorites-also about the size of a golf ball..the pic really doesn't show the character of this one but I just love its tight white banding

Found these outside a woman's house that I tuck pointed, and she said i could have 'em. They're not lakers I know, but anyone have any ideas as to its origin?

More awesome pics Dmopz, all of them! I need to get out and look for some myself, been so busy the past week and then went fishing. I would have been better off looking for agates though, the fish weren't biting!

Which was the almost baseball sized one you found? I can't really tell from the pictures.

About those last 2. Are you sure they aren't Lake Superior Agates? I'm no super expert, but I don't see why they couldn't be.....

Thanks port! I'm fairly sure they aren't lakers because of the host rock the agate is in.

the 'baseball' is the third one down in the post before my 'non lakers'

I also found another one bigger than that but I didn't post it because I couldn't get a decent pic of it, the lines in it are so fine...but heck I will post it anyways

These pics really miss the mark at showing how beautiful this agate really is. Next time we meet up i'll have to bring it so you can really appreciate it

So, Dmopz was kind enough to let me borrow his saw and I attacked a few of my stones with it this afternoon. I mainly went after the boring ones, because I just can't bring myself to actually cut open nice agates and make them smaller.

These are a couple of the more interesting ones that I'm glad I hacked open though.

The white one is about 6 ounces total, so it was a decent sized stone.

The boring outside.

Pretty nice inside. Not sure what type of agate you would call this, but it's definitely not your normal lake superior agate.

Again, another boring outside.

Nice glassy agatey looking inside. Still not sure what type of agate you'd call it, but it's definitely "agatish"

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
