Mounting Side Scan on bowmount

Side Scan will not work on a bow mount trolling motor since to get the best reading from side scan you need to be moving 3 to 8 mph. also the steering of the trolling motor will distort the image. this applies to both lowrance and humminbird units.

If you really need to see it, the easiest thing to do is to network it to your console unit and use the Xducer at the rear, but as mentioned above, the speed needed to get a clean picture kind of defeats the need to see it from the bow.

It can be mounted on the trolling motor and it will give you useable readings. Images will be distorted if you move too slow or turn the trolling motor quickly. I do not have my boat set up this way but know of plenty of bass fisherman that do. If you can afford it, go for it!

As the others have mentioned already, side scan on a bowmount is not going to work very well in most situations, due to the slow speed you're moving, and due to the motor turning and stretching/distorting images.

Both HB and Lowrance have systems to mount the side scan transducer to your trolling motor, so it can be done if that's what you want.

I can see side scan on my front locator when I'm running my trolling motor, but I almost never use side scan in the front of my boat. I use down scan quite a bit when I'm using my trolling motor, but not side scan. For side scan I am almost always driving around and looking with my big motor, or trolling with my kicker motor.

Theres no way I will ever be without SI on my bow mount.... ever. You should be going 3-5 mph to get good images of structure and fish with SI or SS.

You do not need to be going any speed to see fish on SI..... IF youre able to interpret what the unit is showing you.

What I thought it would do, it does well, What I didnt know it would do, it does even better....

The biggest problem with mounting any Xducer onto a trolling motor is to keep the trolling motor from twisting the cable off.

If you look at pictures 123-131 it will show you how to mount a Humminbird HDSI Xducer to a MinnKota Terrova.I dont know if your particular trolling motor has the slot in the shaft like the Terrova does.

I dont think you can do this with a Structure Scan Xducer, because the cable diameter is larger with the Lowrance eqipment, and it wont fit in the "slot"

There are many pictures of "slow moving" fish in my albums.

If you need a crystal clear image, then a trolling motor application is not for you.

If this is your first SI or SS unit, then mount it on the console, and get good at interpreting the images it provides.

If your good at image interpretation on the console, then step up and put it on the bow.
