Huey
I have an older Shimano Curado that has a sticky, weak drag. The reel is about 12 years old, but only gets a few days of use per year.Any ideas? Anyone else run into this? Or know how to fix it?Thanks in advance.
TonkaBass
Don't store a baitcaster with the drag tightened down for long periods of time. I always loosen mine, not sure if this is the problem.
CAMAN
The drag is dry and needs to be greased. Find some Shimano Drag Grease, wipe clean and apply a light coat to the drag washers. The drag washers may need to be replaced also, but with the amount of use you say it gets that is probably not the case.
TurnUpTheFishing
I also loosen the drag on all my reels after each trip to avoid this.
Superduty
Make sure the drag washers are put on in the proper orientation. If they are reversed, the drag will slip very easily. Good stuff on youtube if you want a tutorial on cleaning and assembling shimano curados.
Huey
You tube is a good idea. I usually loosen the drag too ... if I remember. The last time that I used that rod was when I took my niece and nephew fishing in early July. I was probably too distracted while packing up to think of the drag. I lost a seat cushion - forgot in boat - on the way home. I'll try the drag grease. Thanks for the tips.
