Green Bay Packers - Free Agency

SkunkedAgain

Nick Barnett is being shown the door, big surprise. They resigned Mason Crosby which was probably smart as you don't start over on special teams when you are the reigning Super Bowl champs. Others on the FA list for the Packers are:

-James Jones

-Cullen Jenkins

-Jason Spitz

-Daryn Colledge

-Atari Bigby

-Korey Hall

-Brandon Jackson

-John Kuhn

I left a few minor guys off the list. I see them keeping Colledge for the right price and Kuhn and that's it. James Jones wants to be a starter and maybe that's what he needs to cure the "gimme drops" that he's prone to making. Somebody like Oakland will pay him.

I'd hate to see J. Jones go, but if Driver can stay healthy and Finley is back for our End Zone threat I think we will be fine at the WR position.

Could be worse, look at the Queens WR list, anyone you want from that list, nope.

Looks like Colledge's agent is now saying that he's gone (officially on Friday). The statement that I read from the agent was that people will be surprised at the money Colledge is going to get, but it's exactly what they were asking the Packers to pay. All that says to me is that someone overpaid for an average O-lineman who's biggest attribute is durability. On some teams that might be a big plus, but that is the minimum on a championship team, not the only thing.

With Randall Cobb drafted a Brett Swain taking swipes at the #4 receiving slot, I think that we are good with Driver, Jennings, and Nelson at wide receiver.

Honestly I don't see any holes except with depth at ILB and a true compliment to Matthews at OLB, although I like the trio of Jones, Zombo, and Walden.

This mega free agency week is highlighting one thing for me: everyone is overpaying everyone in a mad scramble. Who isn't? Ted Thompson. He's doing what got him to the Super Bowl - avoiding the free agency trap and bringing in lots of young guys who are hungry to compete and win.

Looks like Jones resigned today.

And Kuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhnnnnnnn signed today as well!!

Kind of surprised Jones resigned, but the market isn't as good as he thought it would be. That's going to be a crowded spot, especially since they drafted Cobb and brought Swain back as well. However I am assuming this is based more on Post-Driver than anything. He started showing his age last year and couldn't stay healthy.

Jenkins is the only FA that will be missed, however the guy couldn't stay healthy, so I am not sure how much of a loss it was. He was way overpaid for the number of games he actually plays in a season.
