PerchJerker
Thinking about taking a family camping trip in a week or so. The kids have never been tent camping before and we're looking for a good family vacation spot. We would probably leave the boat and the fishing gear at home ---- we're looking more for things to do together as a family all day long. I was thinking about places like Itasca State Park, Voyaguers National Park, the North Shore, Door County, Chequamegon Bay area, etc.We haven't made any reservations yet and are not tied to any particular area. We would most likely go for a few weekdays, not a weekend. So, I'd appreciate hearing suggestions --- other areas to look at, specific places to stay, specific activities to do or attractions to see, etc. Thanks! blarkey
If your leaving the boat at home I'd say St. Croix state park lots of biking and you can rent canoes there or fish off shore
caseymcq
If the shutdown is over by the time you go Gooseberry or Tettegouche would be good options. If you were to stay at either one you could travel to the other easily (I think it is 15 - 20 miles from one to the other and Split Rock Lighthouse is in between for another attraction). Both have a lot of area to hike around. If you wanted to check out another state park and didn't mind a little bit of a drive there is Crosby Manitou (15 miles inland from Tettegouche) Temperance River (20 miles from Tettegouche further up the North Shore). Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Definitely north shore. Be ready to see lots of other people though. Still a great family destination and there aren't as many people hiking as there are at the visitors center at gooseberry.
