Not Just For Catfish Anymore

So I'm planning on doing some evening/nightfishing on the croix between the swing bridge and hwy 94, and I'll be using cutbait on 1 of my lines...targeting catfish, but I'm wondering what other species of fish might find that stuff tasty?

Cutbait is great stuff. Some other possible catches (some likely, some not) but most all of them I have either caught on cutbait or heard of others catching on cutbait. I'm sure I'm missing some other great examples - all of these are found in the St Croix, though some are quite uncommon

-lake sturgeon

-shovelnose sturgeon

-bowfin

-burbot

-longnose gar

-shortnose gar

-freshwater drum

-american eel

-northern pike

-walleye

-sauger

Of course there are "non-fish" species too: Spiny Softshell turtle, Smooth Softshell Turtle, Snapping Turtle,

I forgot about eels. Oh wow, I hope I stay clear of those.

sometimes you can get a two for one if you catch a fish with lamprey hanging off it.

Don't forget carp - bigguns will take cut bait too.

Lots of carp on cut smelt in the spring. Weird. Glad other people have experience with cutbait for carp.

My PB carp was caught on cut shad.

I have also caught walleye, perch, bass and even a baby tiger musky on cutbait. It may not be the best bait for those species, but it can work under the right circumstances.

Caught a few big Carp on cutbait...it definitely works.

boby, wow that just looks fugly.

I don't know why they wouldn't. Be about the only time you could fish it without boats constantly zipping back and fourth. No matter though, I never made it out last week.
