Rear Drum Brakes

I am changing the rear brakes on my wife's van. It's a 2003 Toyota Sienna. I am having a very hard time getting the drum off. Sprayed around the studs with no luck. We bought the van with 44,000 miles and it has 117,000 so I think the drums haven't been off for a very long time. Any help would be great.

I'm just going to ask the dumb question first, is the parking brake still on?

No. I can spin the drum forward and backwards.

Is there a tapped screw hole in the face of the drum? If so, it is designed to screw a bolt in to push the drum off.

I saw those last night. There are 2 and they are bigger than a 1/4x20. Any idea what size and I am sure they would be metric?

They are definitely metric. I think usually an 8MM but not always.

There is probably a lip on the drum it self. I taken them off by hitting the drum a few times with a 3 lb sledge or you can back the shoes of by the adjuster.

same with me, have to make sure the shoe is backed down tho. then make sure you hit the lip of the drum from the back and it should come off. good luck

It is a 8mm bolt. Screwed the bolt in there and the drum popped right off! Drums are off, brakes are on and the van is back on the road. Thanks again.
