SkunkedAgain
Do any of you use the Home Service Plus from Centerpoint Energy, or another appliance insurance plan? We've got a house with old appliances that will likely die soon (1970s A/C, 1990s furnace, 1970s washer/dryer, etc.). I assume that replacing the A/C and furnace will cost $5k or more if they both went out in the same year. Do any of the service plans take care of replacement or do they only cover repairs? Are they worth it in the long run?
spearchucker
Sounds like the money would be better spend on new appliances. I don't think they will replace, only fix.
CAMAN
They'll only fix, no replacement, although they may give you a small credit towards a new one if the old is to much to fix. I've used it a couple times on the furnace. Once it was the entire board that went out and the other it was just the igniter, but it was during the huge snowstorm that took down the Metrodome. They were surprisingly quick to arrive and fix it, so I didn't need to run around town looking for a new part or call around looking for a HVAC tech who would come out in that junk. I've been pleased with the service.
echotrail
Some years ago my neighbor had Home Service Plus. A repair he needed was denied becasue the cost exceeded their limit for that particular appliance. My neighbor quit the service and the few repairs he's needed since then has cost him far less than the monthly payments for the service.
bucketmouth64
I use them. Yes, they only do repair work and I've been happy with what they've done. They can sell you replacement items like water heater, furnace, a/c if they are not fixable or they red tag your furnace. I think you can buy their stuff on a payment plan on your monthly bill. All of my orignial appliances are covered since 1993. I've only replaced my water heater. I'm the type to not get new stuff until old one dies.
