herm
I have 2001 Yama 80 hp/4-stroke. (Got it used 4-5 years ago...no problems ever.) So I'm on a 6-day fishing trip and on 2-3 different occassions, when I went to accelerate the motor didn't respond very well. It started to speed up but then "bogged down" or didn't keep accelerating. (RPMs got to about 4K and that would be about it.) Each time I backed off to an idle and started again, which then worked just fine. Any ideas on cause and a fix? I ask because in about a month the boat will be heavily used for tubing/skiing at a weeklong gathering. And I don't want to have problems/disappoint relatives/etc. Thanks in advance. (Aside from these few times, I had no other problems that trip or previous. Also, these issues did not come at start of the day or when motor was "cold.") Chode2235
Carbed? Sounds like it. Get your carbs cleaned and adjusted. Be sure to treat your gas and empty the float bowl at the end of the season.
ConnorMN
I had a similar problem with my Honda... took up the floor boards on the boat and found I had a kink in the fuel line right out of the gas tank.... The bend had been there since I got the boat in '04, however late last year, early this year it seems age started to catch up with the fuel line and it kinked... Just a thought... Northlander
Was the motor tilted up high before you took off. I had this happen twice and both times I had my motor trimmed up high in shallow water and when I left just dropped it and ran. Once I learned to not tilt the motor up real high I was ok. Or I give it a few seconds before hammering it down. Must be a gas flow deal.
CAMAN
I'd check the fuel filter and water separator.
gregg52
sounds like fuel filter to me change it
boatfixer
I agree that its most likely a fuel supply issue. Filter being the first thing to replace. Then check for kinks in the line as well as cracks, splits loose clamps etc.
