Night time wallys

Recommended Posts

I like to start pulling cranks usually near dark and during dark, in the shallower water.
What do some of you folks do at this time of night?
Is live bait rigging pretty productive, and if so, do you head for the shallower water?

Tell me some of your night time tactics.
And while your at it, what about early morning just before sun up.

thanks

Crankbaits get my vote. Late fall fishing at night is one of my favorite things to do. We start pulling crankbaits right before it gets dark and don't quit untill the sun is up. I've had some very good success in the morning period you asked about.

Good Fishing!

I agree with Tour. Pro 175. I love pulling cranks in this application. It will be my go to until ice up.

I also agree with tourpro175 I have heard of a lot of people having success with this type of fishing at night. A matter of fact just this last june towards the end of june I met a guy as I was packing away my boat for the evening, He had just pulled into the access and was going to unload his boat when he walked over to talk to me. Am I ever glad he did. He had been fishing this particular lake during the night starting from 10:00pm or even as late as 12:00am till morning and he told me he was fishing 6" to 4' of water. He would cast a countdown and literally hit the shoreline rocks and make 4-5 jerks once it hit the water and thats when the fish would hit and most the time they were big fish. I myself haven't done hardly any trolling raps at night, so I will certainly start doing this.

Rapala original floaters in sizes 11 and 13.
Colors I like best are Firetiger, Black and Silver, Perch, Blue and Silver, Black and Gold. This will get you 6ft or so using Fireline 10#, if you need a little deeper add a split shot 18" ahead of the Rapala or go to a shad rap #5 or 7 in those same colors.

Speed of 2 to 2.5 mph. Slower in the Fall. Mix it up a bit as well, do some S curves and rod pumping. Then hang on.

Some of my favorites(in addition to what has already been posted) are Rattlin Rogues 3-6 ft, Storm Thundersticks(Old Style) 7-10 ft, Huskey Jerks 12 & 14 6-10 ft. and Bang-O Lures 3-5 ft.

Colors vary by lake and condition. If fishing a clear lake during full moon you'll see me using lures that will provide some flash( Chrome, silver, etc) Otherwise I like perch, chartruesse, firetiger, clown and Flourescent Orange(don't laugh... I've caught a lot on this color during dark rainy nights).

Good Luck!

My favorite is the lighted slip bobber on an isolated rock pile. There nothin better searchin for your bobber at dusk when its a foot under water makin a mad dash with the bait in its mouth.....hey where's the bobber......its under set the hook .... yeahbaby!
