Gander Mountain Rods & Reels

I have a guide series ultra light equipped with the guide series reel. This is a good combo with good feel for the money. I also have a tournament series rod that I would rate as just ok. I have a Cabelas Fish Eagle2 rod that I really like and was on my way to get another. Stopped at Gander and they convinced me that the feel of the tourney rod (same blanks as St. Croix) would be equal or better than my Cabelas. Wrong, I will hands down take my Fish Eagle any day over the Gander tourney. Sensitivity, feel and action are superior with the Fish Eagle. I have recently added a Cabelas XLM that I need to equip with the right reel. Can't wait to give that one a good test.

You slipped in a naughty word and it deleted a bunch of your post because of it...I never understood why that happens.
Usually it just gets rid of that word doesnt it?

Oh well, this is what I said before, or basically what I said.

I purchased a new GSX series rod for my son. I got roped into buying the warranty because the "no questions asked" seemed like a good idea. Well, what happens when you buy this extended warranty is that it kicks in 31 days after your purchase. So if you didnt buy the warranty you would have a 2 year warranty, but if you buy the warranty you get 30 days in store or you have to deal with the warranty company.

what happens is that you end up getting a gift card for the purchase price, well, we all know that prices change, could be lower, could be higher, but I just want the dang rod replaced not credit. Oh well.

He broke the rod on day 29, i get to a store on day 31 and they wanted to send me to warranty company. I said if I didnt buy the warranty I would still get replacement in the store, that makes no sense at all.

After some hemming and hawing she sent be back to fishing department and I got an exchange. I wouldnt do this warranty thing again.

Thank you Capt Musky for echoing my thoughts. A $10 replacement contract on a rod guaranteed for 2 years makes no sense. Not sure why that would be anything I'd ever buy. Which I why I think Gander is now refusing to honor their 2 year guarantees unless you have a receipt to prove the date pf sale (even though their online printed return policy doesn't require receipts for exchanges).

Oh well, its their loss and Capra / Thone Brothers gain.

I started to keep all my receipts for rod/reel purchases from any store. It's already paid off once on a rod exchange that broke. Associates that I know say if anything happens to store brand rod/reel to bring it back and they'll exhchange it. Having receipt makes it easier. I usually make sure associate is working and talk to them first.

On another note, I talked to a local reel repair guy that used to not take store brand reels is now accepting those to try and repair. If you have the schematics on the store brand reel to bring that with. Some store brands that have a mfr., such as Quantam, make the reels may not have the parts for said reel. Yeah, that doesn't make sense, but that's what repairman said. That's why he said to bring schematics if you have them.
