it's been in the shop 2 1/2 weeks out of the last 4 1/2 weeks and they still dont know whats rong with it. the problem is you get in it and it won't start (just dead)I get it towed in and it will start right up, and nothing showes up on the computer or it showes 15 -20 differnt problems, they have replaced several parts. but I still end up getting towed, now they say its something with the onstar system. I am suppost to get it back today. I hope that fixes it for good!! I have to pull my boat to LOW next week. so many problems with a truck that only has 16000 miles on it. I feel better now

Thanks for letting me vent

I have been on their side of the fence. Its not fun trying to diagnose a problem with a vehicle, when its not acting up when you are working on it. It is really hard to find the bad electrical part, when it is working the way it should be.

If they are addressing the On Star, there must have been some fault codes pertaining to the security system, so hopefully they are on the right path. If there was no codes in it, I would go back to the starter.

Bad ground or a short somewhere.

I had a similar problem with my Ford last fall and they found a 1" piece of corroded broken wire where someone had poked it with a tester one time. It would make contact sometimes and not others until it finally broke.

Unfortunately tracking down something like that is so difficult. Hopefully they can narrow it down to a certain wire bundle or ground.

My dad went through a similar experience with his 2009 Tahoe. It completely died on him twice while driving and was hundreds of miles from home. He'd be traveling at highway speeds and a light would come on then the truck would slow down in some type of safety mode. After stopping the vehicle it would die and wouldn't start. Both times he was without the truck for two weeks. tried multiple fixes and couldn't get it figured out. GM finally flew an engineer to the dealership. Turns out it was something with the ignition. They swapped out the ignition and never had another problem.

Pretty much exact same thing happened to me with a malibu. You would turn the key and nothing. They had to replace the ignition cylinder, the whole mechanism that you put the key in. With the security these vehicles have built into everything these days the key is an integral part and that is what was causing it to not start. Not getting the right signal making it think it wasnt the right key for the vehicle.
