spinning reels

I am looking to buy a new spinning reel I have my eye set on the new Shimano Sustain, Does the sustain have more than a titanium lipped spool over the stradic? I would prefer a titanium lipped spool but is that all the sustain has over the stradic or does it have somthing else?

Would the Pinnacle Alyssa CR or the Cabelas Prodigy be a better choice? Is the sustain worth the extra money.

I have never tried any of these reels so if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I think The sustain has 2 more bearings for a total of 6 and the stradic has 4 total.
I just was looking at the 2 on a recent shopping trip.My and i stress MY conclusion was the sustain did not offer enough to be twice as much,But both are very nice! smile.gif

I just opened my brand new Okuma Inspira 20 during lunch. I played with one at the Sportsman show last weekend and I had to break down and order one on Monday. 11 Ball Bearings, Titanium lip, oil-soaked drag system, and about every other bell and whistle I had wanted. I tried out the Sustain and Stradic as well as other brands and for $89.99 it was impossible to pass on the Inspira. I have not been on the lake with it yet but it feels like it could be the ticket!! Might be another option worth checking out for you.

11xranger,
I think the Shimano are great reels, in fact I have four of them at home. I was looking to buy the Stradic and I thought the Sports Show was a great place to try them out. I literally walked thirty feet from booth to booth. I talked to reps from both companies and I think the Okuma is very close to the same level as the Shimano's for a lower price. If you search through old posts in the search feature, there are a number of posts on Okuma. They really seem like nice reels. In my opinion it feels like a premium reel at a midrange price. 11 ball bearing and the instant stop feels and looks every bit as good as those on the Stradic and Sustains. Cabelas has pretty good prices on them in their Spring catalog. I would suggest looking at one before making any purchases.

I have been using okuma reels for a couple years now. I have the epixor and avenger. Never have had any problems with them yet and they have been put to the test. The drags are very durable and the reels are constructed well. They also came out with a very good new line of line-counter reels. take a look. http:// www. okumafishing .com

I also have a lot of Shimano's but agree that the Okuma is a great reel for the $. My only ? is how they last. Abu Garcia is also stepping it up for less $. The Cardinal c502 has 6 ball bearings and is under $40.
Anyone tried the Cabelas Fish Eagle? Who makes them for Cabelas?
Anyone really own a Shimano Stella? $490 - $700! Ouch!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
