urban cowboy
Can you use 100 pound test with a Shimano Curado The reason I ask is because I have 1500 yards of it and I don't want to go buy 80 pound test. Have any of you guys used 100lb test with your curado? I got the EJ.
Nick Kuhn
You can probably get 60-70 yards of it on, which is enough for a cast, but it may mean you'll have a very slow retrieve at the end of a long cast due to very little line left on the spool. ole matty
No, I would go with 80 or 65.
urban cowboy
Dude. I have 4500 ft of 100 lb power pro. You can probably get 60-70 yards of it on, which is enough for a cast, but it may mean you'll have a very slow retrieve at the end of a long cast due to very little line left on the spool. Ya, I was told the same thing about my Saltist 20. I guess I will have to over spool it and try to pack it as tight as I can dragging a jake behind the boat at like 5 mph. I have to use this power pro. I have 4000 feet of it. Arrrrrrg.
pureinsanity
you could probably get rid of that spool for pretty cheap to a catfish guy. i bet some would trade some 80 for
urban cowboy
I just talked to a guy and he told me that I should be fine because 75 yards of line is 225 feet. Average cast is about 60-90 feet. Its just the spool diameter at the end of the cast that will cost me retrieve speed. almost half the spool will be out on every cast. Said if I wanted to see a difference I would have to go to 65 pound test. cool.
Nick Kuhn
60-90 feet sounds like bass fishing. 60 feet is home to 1st on a softball field. I know my casts would land a fair distance into the outfield.

I know my casts would land a fair distance into the outfield. you are probably right. lets say your average cast is 90 feet (home to first on a baseball field), 30 yards. it would be almost half the spool. 30 yards out, 45 yards on. I am not going to go 65 lb test. I would rather have 80lb. But 80lb is not that big of a difference in diameter compared to 100lb to justify spending another $50 for more fishing line. I have 4500 feet of it already. Sucks.
pureinsanity
Gotta remember youll be cutting line, trying, what if you snag something and you pull you are forced to bust your line? You could take off 30 feet pretty fast.
Shawn Kellett
80lb is marginal for this reel. I run 65lb and that seems to be the sweet spot for muskies fishing.
urban cowboy
I will try to pack 80-90 yards on it with minimal backing. I will let everyone know how it works out.
Dave_Williamson
you can but I would stick with 65lb Power Pro
SDS
I would take that powerpro and throw it in the trash!
Esox_Magnum
I have ran 80 Power Pro on mine since buying it 4 years or so ago. Only time it's an issue is when casting hellhounds with a good stiff breeze then I can spool it on a cast. Works good for long range Jet Ski deterent
