Boat Cover - Custom Made vs. Store Bought

Does anyone have an idea of what the price comparison between a good store bought cover vs. a custom made cover would look like? My cover from the Rogers tourist trap is ripping through in a bunch of places, and before I spend some more hard earned cash, would like to find out is it worth talking to a custom shop?

Thanks,

Mojo

If the custom tarp is not roting and past it's time, I would then see what a repair job of that tarp would cost...get an estimate for a repair first.

600 denier off the shelf covers are good, and different manufactures offer different options like quick buckles vrs ropes. If you tow a lot covered, add the extended warranty if offered as to cover yourself after the manufactures warranty runs out. Price the off the shelf and the warranty, then decide if it's cost effective to do a new custom fit tarp or not.

The better custom fit tarps now run $600 plus...so off the shelf is very appealing at 1/3 the cost.

I gotta say that a cover from the big "C' has been all we've needed. Had the big fancy ones a couple times at two/three times the price and did not see the point. Sure the Big "C" ones will wear out, but they have several grades-price ranges etc.

It ain't worth it my friend.

But HEY!.....it's your money.

i paid 700 for my custom cover, its so nice i wanted to protect it, so when its sitting in the driveway i snap on my good cover and then cover it with a cheap stearns cover to keep off leaves and sap kind of a pain but it will last longer not getting as much uv exposure

Custom vs Store.

Custom will be better, more durable, last longer and most the time uses better parts.

Going 4 years on a custom snap cover that sits in the sun all summer long, no fading, no ripping, no snaps are broke.

Had store bought ones last less then a year.

+1. Mine's going on 10 years now. It's outside all summer long and still looks great. Not a single off the shelf model will give you that kind of durabality. None.

Mine was 800$ and worth every penny when traveling.

That was the kicker and the big yammy included with custom stuff for the rod holder bases and the rigger placement.

I guess it just depends on if you want to protect your investment.

I bought a boat a few years ago, and came with a ripped and rotted canvas cover.

I found a place that repairs seats, covers, etc.. seemed like a one man show, can't remember the name of the place, but it was on Lake street, east of 55, not the best neighborhood, but it cost me around $80...he sewed the rips up very well, and sewed a large piece of canvas under the rotting part...its lasted about 3-4 years.. so far so good....
