i haven't done it in years but we used to put beef kidneys or liver in a big coffee can put the cover back on and punched a bunch of holes in the can and put it under the water with a large enough rock on top of the can so it stays put. good luck.

That's how I used to catch 'em. Almost any container will work. Just remember leeches DO NOT like spoiled meat; make sure the liver is fresh. I always had my weight IN the can, and cut wide slits instead of holes. Find a shaded, quiet area along the shoreline and sink it. Leave overnight. Pull your "can" or whatever you're using out early in the am the next day; left longer and the leeches will leave. After you catch them, let them sit in a container for an hour or so, the ones that escape are "horse" leeches and are not good for bait.

Ther's also a good video somewhere on this site about using "accordianed" sheet metal to catch'em.

Bogwalker: They're a bigger, uglier (if possible) leech that feeds off of dead stuff, fish, rotting meat, etc. Pretty aggressive and predatory. I've had some that look brownish in color. Fish don't seem to like them, and I don't either! eek

There was a great 'how too' video posted about a year ago. I think someone associated with Jewell Outdoors made it. I tried to find the link but didn't succeed. Maybe some else has it.
