liberalized fishing

Just read in a local paper that the DNR opened liberalized fishing at 2 NE metro lakes. They are Mud and Howard Lakes near Forest Lake in the Lamprey Pass Wildlife Mgmt. Area. Beginning Sept. 27-Oct. 24 anglers can take as many fish you can legally catch. The lake is gonna thru a reclamation project that will involve using chemicals to kill off remaining fish after Oct. 24. Signs will be posted at all public accesses informing anglers of the liberalized fishing.

Anyone have info. about the lakes?

Cousin lives in Blaine and me and him made a few trips out there last fall and a few this year. There is a dock that can be used to carry a canoe or small john boat out. It is really weedy/hard to fish around the dock(scum frogs work though).

There is a stream that connects the two lakes that has a few good areas where we have caught a few decent bass, lots of bluegills, and an occasional norther. But like mentioned it does have LOTS of rough fish.

I have seen everything in this stream, bass, northerns, crappies, sunnies, bullheads, carp, dogfish. It may be a good place to try if you want to take the kids out fishing and have some action.

Well they are absolutly full of bass. I was there last year and nailed probably 100 bass (all c&r). Some were very nice, up to 4 lbs. There was also an abundance of northerns, sunnies, crappies and I even hooked a small muskie. There are tons of carp, bullheads and dogfish too. It is very good fishing in the spring and if there has been some rain lately, the water in the channels is awesome fishing.
