Drivers Lic. question

Recommended Posts

I have two nephews that have had their drivers lic. suspended for one reason or another and it is mucho expensive to get them reinstated.

Last week I believe, I seen an article about those people with suspended lic. being eligible for a reinstatment program that ends in June of this year. It allows eligible individuals with a suspended lic., to get their lic. back and pay the reinstatement fees over a period of time. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this program, or what it is called?

I tried searching the strib archives but wasn't very lucky....At any rate, I didn't find what I was looking for, maybe it was on the evening news? Does anyone out there have any information on a lic. reinstatement program?

It is in limited jurisdictions. The program is run through the violations bureau of the counties and it is basically a place to set up a payment schedule on unpaid fines and get the DL back as long as you abide by the terms of the deal. If they have unpaid fines call or go to a violations bureau and work it out. Take something to read cause the lines are usually long. And don't park at a meter.

? whats that got to do with anything? Where did that come from? confused Is that what you would tell them? I'm sure you would be eating soup through a straw for awhile!

The service isn't free, theres no cut rates, it's just an easier way of paying for something thats quite expensive, they both have steady jobs?

I'm sure you pay cash on the barrel head for everything YOU purchase, try reading the post a little closer, geeze.

Grebe I admire you for looking into this for them. However, I think what Caman means is its time they both grow up and show responsibility. I would suggest they look into this option, but I wouldn't waste your time doing all the research. Shouldn't they be the ones looking into this? Suspension of a license usually happens because of irresponsibility. So they need to grow up and handle it like adults themselves.

I once lived with a guy who had 2 DWI's, he would still drive after drinking after the 2nd one. He also had his license revoked because of this. So he had his brother purchase a car(they took his license plates away) and register it under his brothers name so he could drive to and from work with no license. Finally after a couple times being pulled over for a cracked windshield and seat belt, then being pulled over because the cops ran his plates and his brothers name popped up who had a warrant. I finally stopped bailing the guy out of trouble, stopped helping him get his car off the road so it wouldn't get towed. After he finally realized no one was going to help him but himself he took the time to get everything paid off and get his license back.

Again it is very nice of you to look this info up for them, but at some point in their life they have to figure stuff out on their own. And don't invest money in it, odds are you might not see any of it back.

pureinsanity, I was trying to form a response to this in my head. You did it better than I would have.

Grebe, I don't think that CAMAN intended to make any kind of personal attack, I think he was just making the observation that the licenses were revoked for a reason, and that maybe your nephews should be given the opportunity to learn about actions and consequences. It's a good thing to want to help, but "helping" sometimes isn't.

My parents were always happy to give my sister and I lots of rope when we were kids. If we tied ourselves up with it, we were expected to untie ourselves as well. Not necessarily help-free in every case, but we had to lead the effort in terms of planning and responsibility for follow-through and expense.

Grebe was simply asking for insight about a specific reinstatement program, not asking to be preached to. While generally I agree with your sentiment and Caman's, it's clearly not what he was inquiring about so I can understand his gripe...

One more post to only those whom this would pretain to and then I'm done with all the "Holier Then Thou" people...It was a frikken simple request? If it was such a thorn in your side, you didn't have to responde to it?

I know that you guys are the only ones that know who is worthy of being helped and that you know all the specifics as to why all things large and small occur, I know that you guys have never stumbled, have always done the right thing and been on the straight and narrow...straight shooters, one and all, I can tell by your rightous writing....

Helping people is something I like to do, family or not. I enjoy doing things for others when they don't expect it....no one asked me to do anything for them, but both of these fellas leave for work before the offices are open and they don't get back from work until they are closed.

It's not a waste of my time? I'm the one that determines what I do with my time and in what way to use it....and also my money for that matter! All I ask is that when a good deed is done for someone, they remember it and pass it on to the next person that needs help.

These are difficult times for alot of people, alot going on in our economy and in our country...maybe if more people tried to help others instead of pointing a finger and trying to pop every balloon with their ever present pin, things would be alot better!

End of my involvement in this discussion. For those of you that were kind enough to offer up something positive, I thank you again...for the others, well.....

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
