How long does Spider Wire last?

I started using spider wire last summer and really like it. The question I have is are you supposed to put on new line for the new season like you do with monofiliment line. I noticed one of my rods the line looks frayed in the sun light.

Normally, those types of super line last a couple seasons, as opposed to one season like mono does. One trick I do is take the end of the line and tie it to a fixed object like a tree, and walk backwards and strip all of the line off of the reel. Once you get to the end, tie the end to another fixed object. Then, go back to the first tree you started on and reel it back onto your reel. By doing this, you end up with the old/frayed line on the inside of your spool and you are left with new/unused line on the business end. You can also do this by transfering the line to a different reel which is a little easier to do.

Just a way to make your dollar go a little further. 2c

I shead as many yards as looks worn. If the spool looks low I may just do the back spoling to another spool or reel and leave the worn line on. As the worn line will just be back fill anyway.

I found that any braid will benifit from a shot of a line rehydration agent, a line treatment. A very good one is Ardent Line Butter.

The Line Butter keeps the braid from undue early wear and they cast and spool much better. A bottle will last a long time and I hit new braids and old braids alike to increase there longevity of use...it also protects the line from UV breakdown.....good stuff.

It's pretty easy to look over a braided line and tell if it's getting worn, there will be visual clues.

My spiderwire from last season (on the reel I may have used on 10-20 outings) still looks in great shape, no way does it need to be replaced yet.

I just reel it strait on to a different reel. Faster and easier to do.

there is NO time table for fishing line...not even Mono. I've had Flouro on my reel for over 5 years now and have not had any problems to date. However, I take care of my reels and keep the line out of sunlight and cover when not in use.

I simple "inspection" is all that is needed and the best part is the line on top (the line you can see first) is usually the line that goes bad first, so if thats good, generaly the line under is good as well.

You'd actually be suprised how long your line last...
