Is there a p hole on a 115 4 stroke Mercury

I went to flush the motor today at the flush port and then to hook up the ear muffs at the lower intake, no water coming out the p hole? Does a 4 stroke have one? I can't seem to find a spot where it comes out. I have a service manual and it doesn't list anything about the p hole. Could it be a t-stat or impeller, it sonly 3 years old?

Hey Joe.

Lots of times the water muffs don't get enough water in there for it to come out the p hole --- you need to have it in the water for that. The p hole is just an indicator that your cooling system is working correctly, most of the cooling water goes out through the exhaust in the prop.

You have seen the muffs not supply enough water to the engine?

I know on my F115 when hooked up using the muffs that there is more water than the engine can take it(it dumps out the side of the muffs as well). I usually have the water turned on full blast. Also, I don't know that there is any way on the engine for the water to go anywhere else but the water pump.....so how does it go out through the exhaust and not reach the pump? At least based on looking at the inside of the F115 lower unit recently the water pump intake and exhaust chamber are separated. Maybe the merc is different.

What's the flush port you talked about, I know on a 90 horse 4 stroke mercury theres a place up on the back of the motor where you can hook a hose up to and run the motor at idle. Where you hook the hose to is also the p hole and with using this way to deliver water you are running the cooling system in a reverse flow. Not an expert but thats my take on it

The place on the back you talk of is a place to RINSE your motor out. It is not meant to be used as a replacement for earmuffs or having the motor in the water.

It is recomended by Mercury NOT to run your motor using the rinse port. Just an FYI.

I dropped my lower unit today and inspected the impeller, I found the hub was slightly worn and there were some grooves in the impeller plate. I replaced the impeller and plate, hooked up the ear muffs and now theres water coming out the p hole. That was a real easy job. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the shaft realligned when your putting it back together.

Isn't that a good time?

Exactly, and be sure there's no children in the vicinity or they will learn some new language. That's the first thing they'll say the next day in school.
