Best Drive in Trophy Pike Fishing?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Im thinking about making a trophy pike trip to Manitoba or NW Ontario. I have my own boat and I would like to drive in and camp. Does anyone have any suggestions for a lake to start at?

I love fishing Lake of the Woods but the fish seem to disapear after ice out (other than the Warroad River- to many yahoos there...)

I have been kicking around Cedar Lake in Manitoba but I havent been able to find very much information on it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Some of the best drive to fishing in Ontario for trophy pike and walleyes would hve to be Lake St Joseph. Special lake regs and non residents only being able to fish it with a special tag make it a unique and magnificent fishery. You can drive to it on the East end and there are also a few cabins that are fly in on the lake.

Reed Lake is great, nice campground and great pike fishing. Special regulations, make sure you know what they are. We go the 1st week in June, hope we're not too early this year. One year we caught pike, lakers and whitefish on raps in the shallows all on the same day. Walleyes also, especially in the Grassy River. The only complaint I have is the hellish drive. The roads aren't too bad, all blacktop, but the all-nighter is tough. You really need 3 guys to make sure at least 2 are awake.

I've been interested in Cedar Lake for a couple of years, but I'm not the trip organizer, so haven't gotten there. Looks like Moak Lodge is the place to go; they have campsites available.

Ron.

Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan. This is the place you see Doug Stange from In-Fisherman at fairly frequently. I went up there last September and caught several over 40". Either early-mid June, or September is probably best for trophy Pike. I also caught a 15.3 walleye on the same trip.

Nungesser is a long drive from anywhere in the states but is semi private, big and throws out lots of big gators and walleyes on an annual basis. Further south, Dogtooth would not be a bad choice. I hear it is tough to fish if you don't know it. The entire Red Lake Ontario area would be fun to try given enough time.
