Larson15
At the end of last year I started using 15lb power pro with a 8lb fluro leader (8ft) setup a little bit and I'm still unsure how I like it. I see more and more finesse guys on tour who are doing this now and I wanted to get some opinions on it.
Superduty
I believe I heard Aaron Martens saying he runs braid with a flouro leader now on all his dropshots. Most would say he is one of the best dropshotters on tour. I am thinking about trying it this year too. I see increased sensitivity, less line twist, less money spent on expensive flouro, and better hooksets as positives. The only negative I see is the failure of the braid to flouro knot. That is a big potential negative that I have a hard time overcoming.
Fever
I've been doing this for the past couple years. I use Power pro mostly and Berkley's Vanish. I usually don't use 8 feet of leader though as the knot will then have to run through at least a few of your rod's eyelets on each cast, and will most likely prematurely weaken or otherwise wear. I have used 50-65 lb powere pro and used a back to back uni to tie to 12-20 flouro. Like you, I've also used smaller braid 20 and tied to 8lb flouro but usually only about 3 feet. I've also experimented with the blood knot and have no complaints. At times when money is on the line I take a brush applicator super glue (krazy glue has a good one that comes out a bit purple so you know where you put it, and it drys clear) and put a tiny perpendicular swipe just across my knot for peace of mind. Haven't had one break at the knot when it counts yet.
PerchJerker
I use flouro leaders quite a bit, for dropshots and other applications too. I use the back-to-back uni knots and have never had that knot break. Like someone else said, I keep my leaders shorter so I'm not casting and reeling the knot through the guides all the time. Deitz Dittrich
I hope Wayne Ek sees this, I know he too runs braid to floro... I myself still go straight floro, but for the most part I do use heavier stuff than most.. I usually use 9 or 10 lb.
Comit 2
Sounds good to me. You can't beat the sensitivity of braid. If it works for Walleye it will work for drop-shot Bass.
